Marten Jacobszoon Heemskerk van Veen.Now that's a lotta name! And a lotta talent, too.
I was riding the Wiki wave just now, and upon checking out the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World—which are in and of themselves entirely exciting—ol' Dutchy's luscious illustrations done popped up. In all their resplendent, Netherlandish glory.
Apparently Heemskerk did a wonderful series about the 7 Wonders, and wow—such gorgeous colors! His Lighthouse of Alexandria reminds me of Bruegel the Elder's Tower of Babel, which is also turbo wonderful.
Hooray, Dutch masters!
