Since everyone's been talking about Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor, I thought it only topical to make a portrait. In capturing any likeness, right away you become aware of someone's uniquenesses. Sonia's eyes, for instance, have an epicanthic fold, so it was important not to heavily shade around the orbits of her eyes, 'cause that'd suggest a concave quality. Quite the opposite, I lit her eyes like a half sphere.
Of course the funnest part for me was finding excuses for pattern, and in fact, that's almost always the funnest part for me.
Anyway, this picture is best viewed while listening to Celia Cruz. Come to think of it, I feel like eating something from a banana leaf right now. And some chicharrón!
